WelCOMING MESSAGES FROM THE ORGANISERS

MESSAGE BY RA’ED BENSHAMS, IIAS PRESIDENT

IIAS is very proud to be back in Subsaharan Africa with its annual conference for the first time since the Yaoundé - Cameroon, conference in 2003. We proudly count Cameroon, Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia and South Africa as our member state countries in the region and wishes to attract more of African countries to contribute towards our shared vision of contributing and shaping the Public Administration worldwide by demonstrating the added-value of the neutral platform for exchanges between public administration practitioners and academics we provide.

In times of crisis, there are two options: fight or flight. It is the former path, courage not fear, action not submission, which IIAS resolutely suggests taking in the contemporary context: overcoming cultural and ideological differences, and engaging in collaborative governance across borders.

Mombasa is the perfect place to discuss this theme. With its port, it has always been a significant node of exchange of goods, thoughts and ideas on the Indian ocean and the world beyond. Kenya is at the vanguard of the African modernization which is underway and will immensely and positively impact the world in the years to come.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Kenya School of Government, our member state representative institution, for making this conference project possible. I would like to warmly invite everyone to join us in this Mombasa conference for an intellectually stimulating, and socially enriching, experience.

MESSAGE FROM PROF. LUDEKI CHWEYA, KSG DIRECTOR GENERAL

Distinguished participants,

It is with great pleasure and immense pride that I extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you to the Kenya School of Government, Mombasa Campus for the IIAS 2024 Conference.

Conferences like these provide a unique platform for intellectual exchange, collaboration, and the exploration of innovative ideas. They allow us to connect with our peers, learn from one another, and collectively contribute to advancing our fields.

The theme of our 2024 conference invites us to deepen understanding of collaborative approaches to governance, highlight successful strategies, identify challenges, and explore the potential for enhanced cooperation among nations and international organizations.

Our faculty and staff of the beautiful campus in Mombasa blended with our African hospitality, will be at hand to make your experience as enriching and enjoyable as possible. You will also have an opportunity to experience the coastal region and its rich historical sceneries through the organized and independent safaris.
